Tip 45- What Time Should I Stop Eating Before Bed?

This is the most common question I’m asked. Many nutritionists will tell you not to eat after 6pm if you’re trying to lose weight. This is great advice if you go to bed at 8pm. But for the rest of us who have jobs, kids, and a house to clean, we are often working late into the night and if we stop eating at 6pm we will be starving by 9pm and never fall sleep.

Stop eating 3 hours before bed. It will take about 3-4 hours to burn off your dinner. The food won’t be completely digested (otherwise, you’re hungry again) but the majority of your meal has been metabolized. This means, you are less likely to store the excess calories as fat, but you’re still “full enough” to fall sleep.

Today’s tip: Eat dinner early on Sunday and go to bed at a decent hour that night. This helps to set up a pattern for the week of feeling hungrier earlier and getting a few extra winks during the week.
