I thought Deborah’s Lunch and Learn topic was excellent. I’m hoping there are more presentations from Deborah in the future. It was a great opportunity to learn more about nutrition and other related topics. I shared the information with my departments and we had a great discussion.

Simple Tips to “Doctor Up” Pre-Made Meals
These soups are so convenient but I’ve found most don’t taste great. I love the boxed tomato soup on a cold day but I like to add some magic and make it taste homemade.
I found this wonderful Curry sauce at Costco the other day. One of my New Year’s rituals is to add more curry or turmeric to my family’s meals. While the sauce tastes good, I decided to add my own stamp to it.
I love the new premade salads. Most of them are chock full of fresh and high fiber veggies. Biggest challenge is the yummy add-ins and salad dressing that comes with them.
Chemicals in the Kitchen
Counters dirty? As you reach for the bottle of counter spray look at the list of ingredients. Do you really need to apply these ingredients to the same counters where you prep your food? Is there something that will clean and sanitize without the chemicals?
And it’s not just cleaning products. What about spraying oil into the frying pan, did you know that the manufacturers add a propellant to get the oil out of the can? The propellants most commonly used in cooking sprays are butane and propane, which can be liquefied at room temperature. Butane is used in cigarette lighters. Propane is used for residential heating and in portable stoves.
At 680 degrees Fahrenheit, Teflon releases at least six toxic gases, including two carcinogens, according to a study by the Environmental Working Group, a nonprofit watchdog organization. If your Teflon pan has the potential to kill a pet bird, why risk it when there are wonderful alternatives to Teflon?ls?
