26 Sep Satisfy Cool Weather Cravings
There are a few things that I love about this season, and if I’m really being honest, they’re all edible. If you’re anything like me, right about now is when the comfort food cravings start. My body seems to forget that I spend almost every cold-weather moment inside a heated room.
As soon as I feel the first autumn breeze, I start craving foods that I know are fattening, like pumpkin pie, garlic mashed potatoes and butternut squash ravioli. Are you hungry yet? So am I! But if we give in to our cravings now, we’ll surely go up a pant size three months from now.
There is one tip that usually works well for me. It’s a form of food swapping, but it doesn’t really require any complicated recipes. It’s the concept that is important. When you’re craving potato chips, for example, you might be satisfied with anything that has a salty flavor. Or, maybe it’s a combination of crunch and salt that you’re after.
Craving Eat
Potato Chips | Kale chips or lightly salted cashews or almonds |
Caramel | Frozen Medjool date (they taste like caramel) |
Chocolate | Dark chocolate or lightly-sweetened hot cocoa |
Ice Cream | Blend a frozen banana, and viola! You have a sweet ice cream like treat. |
If you’re used to succumbing to cravings, these simple changes can make a big difference in your waistline. But nothing on this list helps with a pumpkin pie craving, does it? Well, have no fear, I’ve got that craving covered too.
This requires a simple recipe, but it’s worthwhile if you need to satisfy a craving for this seasonal treat.
1 frozen banana
½ cup pumpkin puree
¼ cup almond milk (or your milk of choice)
½ tsp cinnamon
½ tsp pumpkin pie spice
Blend all ingredients in a blender, top with gingersnaps and a small dollop of light whipped cream, and enjoy!
