16 Jun Foods 4 Healthy Skin
In my 20’s and 30’s, I didn’t eat a lot of fruits and vegetables — I know, don’t tell anyone! My diet wasn’t great and it showed in my skin. In my 40’s, I started experimenting with more fruits and veggies, and I found that I really enjoyed them. I didn’t grow up eating much fruit and my main veggie was iceberg lettuce, so I had a lot of catching up to do.
An amazing thing happened when I started eating more fresh produce, my skin began looking better, and yours can too!
Here are my Top 4 Super Foods to give your skin a healthy glow:
Blueberries: This fruit is number one in antioxidants when compared to all fruits and veggies, which can protect your skin from premature aging. Pop these little gems in your mouth plain, add a ½ cup to yogurt (another skin super food), blend them up in a smoothie, or top off a green salad for an added antioxidant boost.
Wild Salmon (not farm-raised): This fish is one of the best sources of Omega-3 fatty acids. Omega-3’s help to keep your skin moist and supple. Salmon also has a good dose of selenium, which can give your skin natural protection from the sun.
Spinach: Popeye’s pal is a good source of Omega-3 fatty acids. Did you know that green leafy veggies are just as important as fish for this nutrient? Spinach is also a source of vitamins B, C, and E, potassium, calcium, iron and magnesium.
Oysters: My secret food weapon! They’re a good source of zinc, which can help renew and repair skin cells. Zinc also keeps your hair, nails and eyes healthy. So line them up and do some shooters — the healthy kind.
