Tip 57- Our Kids Are Chubby!

Today, kids eat 200 more calories a day than they did in 1977. That’s an extra pound of fat gained every 17 days. Combine that with the fact that our kids are less active today; and no wonder our kids are overweight and at higher risk of health problems such as diabetes and high cholesterol.

Let’s face the facts. Kids eat 25% of their daily calories in snack foods. Don’t fight the snacking! Just turn it into a healthy “mini-meal.” A snack should combine carbohydrates, protein/fat and fiber.

Today’s tip: Here is my favorite snack (for kids and adults):

Deborah’s Energy Roll

Ingredients:

•3 whole wedges of the Laughing Cow Original Swiss Cheese

•6 slices of Deli Turkey

•2 Tablespoons of mustard

•Sliced red bell peppers (sliced into spears)

Preparation:

Spread half a cheese wedge on each deli slice.

Add a 1/2 teaspoon of mustard to each slice.

Place 2 bell pepper spears horizontally at the bottom of each slice and roll.

(2 rolls are a serving size).
